Salt and Light (Five Minute Friday)

Praise the Lord for Five Minute Friday! Why, you ask my dear reader? Well, I am learning a lesson on what it means to be a Jesus blogger and temporary Mama. I offered to watch a friend’s two little precious girls overnight so they are currently ankle deep in toys in my living room watching Tangled.

Needless to say– my attention is a bit divided.

On that note, time to get down to business… Of Fridays I link up with The Gypsy Mama. She gives us a one word prompt, and we write like the wind for five minute. No over thinking, no editing.

Today’s prompt: LIGHT

Ready? GO!

***

“Let me tell you why you are here. You’re here to be salt-seasoning that brings out the God-flavors of this earth. If you lose your saltiness, how will people taste godliness? You’ve lost your usefulness and will end up in the garbage.”Here’s another way to put it: You’re here to be light, bringing out the God-colors in the world. God is not a secret to be kept. We’re going public with this, as public as a city on a hill. If I make you light-bearers, you don’t think I’m going to hide you under a bucket, do you? I’m putting you on a light stand. Now that I’ve put you there on a hilltop, on a light stand—shine! Keep open house; be generous with your lives. By opening up to others, you’ll prompt people to open up with God, this generous Father in heaven.” –Matthew 5:13-16 (MSG)

What does it mean for YOU to be the salt and the light of the earth? That’s a great question and I am discovering it for myself daily. Call me an informal Friday slacker… But I don’t think it is any accident that I spent the better part of yesterday morning walking around belting out the song “Salt and Light” by Jami Smith. So today, I would like to share that video. (Of Jami singing it… not me. I really don’t want me first vlog to be me with fuzzy hair in PJ’s singing a very-low octave song.

Tell someone about Jesus today– be the salt and the light! And don’t forget to enjoy this video!

Now if you will excuse me… I am on a pancake-making mission for these little ones… and it’s getting to my favorite part of Tangled– can’t miss it! 🙂

Keeping it Bright and Salty,
SGK

Salt is excellent. But if the salt goes flat, it’s useless, good for nothing. “Are you listening to this? Really listening?”– Luke 14:34

I LOVE that group of verses, especially written in The Message! I went to crave a while back and He had me turn to Matthew and He spoke those sweet words to my soul. I hear Him loud and clear. So, hearing and seeing is again brings back such wonderful, glorious and marvelous thoughts!!!
You see, He was encouraging me to move forward with my walk and my testimony…He told me,’ we’re going public with this!’ It spoke volumes to me and I have the same smile on my face as I did several weeks back.
It’s my prayer to be His light and His saltiness according to His beautiful purpose. ‘Here I am Lord, send me.’! 🙂
    Thank you for that!!

  2. Great post!
    It definitely has me thinking.
Thank you for the visual of fuzzy hair and pjs. I have declared Friday as my official pj day! Today we are traveling back to reality from the mountain haven where we have been for the last few days. Otherwise I would be right there with you! Pancakes and all! 😉
Oh, and I love Tangled. That movie never gets old!
Enjoy your weekend, friend! You are a blessing!

    • Thanks Joy… I have managed to change from PJ’s to workout clothes and supposed I should at least put on “real pants” for our Good Friday service tonight. Ha!

Safe travels on your way back to reality 😉

      • HA! Maybe you should invest in some pajama jeans 🙂 I love mine! Yes, I said it! AND I have more than one pair (gasp). You are doing better than I with the workout clothes. Not sure I even know where mine are!

      • Oh my gosh, don’t tell my husband that you own pajama jeans– He always jokes every time I wear tight jeans (and what jeans don’t fit tightly?) that they look like pajama jeans.

He continues to *threaten* to buy me a pair. I’m concerned I would actually enjoy them 😉

      • Girrrrrrrrrrrrrrl, they would change your life. They’ve come a long way…boot leg, capri, skinny…a friend sent me a pajama gram as a gift and I’m hooked. Here’s the link, but don’t look at it! You will be tempted 😉 http://www.pajamagram.com/Collections/pajamajeans.aspx

  3. Wow….I thought I was the only Jami Smith fan! I got to see her lead worship at a youth conference in CA in 2006. She did this song and ‘Bravo God.’ Very gifted.

    • I never knew this song existed til about two years ago this time when a tiny church plant in Jeff City, Missouri allowed me to sing it with the band…

“Make me salt, make me light…” 🙂
