25 Reasons Why Moms Rock

“But Moooooooommmmmmmmmm…”

“Mom, you just don’t understand.”

“Whatever, Mom.”

Aaahhh, the sweet, sweet sounds of my childhood. (My teenage years were kind of brutal. Just ask my parents. Apparently, I had something called an “attitude.” Pshaw. Whatever 😉 )

Fortunately, I am well on the other side of my teen years and my beloved Mama and I no longer butt heads. (At least not like we used to.) In fact, she is my best friend. It’s amazing what a little personal maturity can do for a gal. (Talking about you, Mama. Just kidding…)

Love my Mamas. ❤

Just in case you didn’t get the memo, yesterday was Mother’s Day. (If you didn’t call, text, or acknowledge your Mom, I will allow a brief blog intermission for you to panic and subsequently rectify the situation.)

Are we good? Ok, great. So yeah, yesterday was Mother’s Day. And for the first time in my adult history (at least I think?), I actually had a chance to celebrate Mother’s Day WITH my Mama. Yes, folks, she is spending a few days in Georgia with me. This is a big deal… because I haven’t seen her since Christmas, and this is her first time in Georgia since we moved here over a year ago.

We’ve had a great time. Scratch that. It’s been incredible. I love that woman.  In the days I have spent with her (and the days leading up to her arrival) I couldn’t help but think about why my mom (and moms in general) simply rock. They are just so awesome.

Thus, in honor of Mother’s Day, I have compiled 25 Reasons Why Moms Rock. (Feel free to forward this to your Mom in case you forgot to acknowledge her awesomeness yesterday.) Let’s praise Jesus for the gift of our Mamas! Drumroll please…

To all the Mama’s out there (My Mama CJ and Mother-in-Love Lex specifically) THANK YOU for being such great role models and influences on our lives. You are truly a gift from God, and I pray that your legacy lives on for generations.

Thanking The Father for our Mamas,
SGK

  1. My mother is the angel looking over my shoulder. There are days when I swear I see her in the mirror, and this makes growing older myself easier, less an idea to fear and more an idea to cherish. She’s the one who walked the full length of the road before me.

    • Beautifully said, Lori-Ann!! So thankful that you have a Mama Angel watching over you… She is walking with Jesus making for you 🙂 Blessings my friend!

  2. Such a cute list! They always do have that one recipe, right? For me, it’s lasagna and chocolate frosting. I just call or e-mail my mom and she gives it to me in a heartbeat. Glad you overcame your teenage “attitude” and have a great relationship with your mom now. I’m the same exact way!

    • That is so great, Jen. My go-to Mama recipes are Strawberry Pretzel Salad and cabbage rolls. 🙂 So thankful for a great relationship with our Moms!

we are neighbors @ playdates…great list….yes no one will pray for someone like a momma….blessings to you~

    • Thanks for stopping by! And yes, Mamas are incredible prayer warriors. So thankful for that one!

  4. You are a great writer. So fun and heartfelt. My mama rocks because she is so generous and whenever I come home to visit she makes my bed and sometimes (due to an inside joke) even leaves a mint on my pillow.

    • Ahh, thanks Chelsea. And the fact that you have a mint on the pillow makes me laugh– not because I think it is goofy but because we do the same thing!!! (And it always has to be mint involving chocolate… not just a peppermint lol.)

  5. Momma Lex

Thank you for all the lovely compliments. I am so honored, blest and lucky to have you as my daughter-in-love!! I just wish you lived closer so I could do more for you!! (hint, hint) 🙂

    • Ah Ma. Wish we lived closer too… Write Uncle Sam and tell him to build more infantry army bases in the Midwest ha ha! Love you SO MUCH!

  6. My mom rocks, too! Spending Mother’s Day with her doesn’t happen very often with the miles between us but to her having her children where God wants them is just what she whats, too.

    • I feel you, Pamela… There are many moments I wish my Mom was right down the road. But she is so supportive of what God has called us to do, which is a blessing in itself.

  7. Your list is spot on. I have had the pleasure of knowing your mama for many years, she is one of a kind.

  8. Your list is PERFECTLY true! Each one! My oldest son popped by today and ATE MY lunch in the fridge, so yes, there is always food in the fridge! Your list made me so smile – but you know what? I am a mom of teen who graduated from high school last year – and I would love to hear your testimony to encourage us moms out here that God takes the time to pursue our children!!!

    • All I can say is hang in there and love your darlings daily. (Which I know you already do!) It just takes time and maturity for stubborn teenagers (speaking from experience) to realize how awesome and valuable our Moms (and Dads!) really are in our lives.

  9. Love your list – I accomplished #19 today when I discovered a lone backpack left in the park and delivered it to my son’s friend’s house – we are always on the look-out, right?!
