More Productive Perspective (Five Minute Friday)

The end of the week,
Now has arrived,
Let’s take a moment to rejoice,
For we have survived.

In the bloggers world,
Friday’s mean fast,
Writing for Five Minutes,
Can be such a blast.

Link up with The Gypsy Mama,
For she gives us a prompt,
Write nonstop for 5 minutes,
Til that clock tells us stop.

So tis Five Minute Friday,
Don’t edit, don’t think,
Pay close attention,
For time passes in a wink!

Todays Prompt: PERSPECTIVE

Annddd… GO!

*****

“C’mon… check it out! It really interesting.”

“I can’t see anything.”

“Look closer.”

“What is so cool about this? I can’t see anything.”

(SIGH.) “Seriously, what’s the problem. IT’S RIGHT THERE!!”

“WHERE?!?!! I CAN’T SEE IT!!”

“Look from this direction.”

“Oooohhh… There it is!”

Perspective. Such a simple concept, but an idea that holds so much power. The conversation above might seem oh-so-familiar to you. When we lack the ability to see things from other perspectives, our minds become closed– we become frustrated and potentially quick to judge.

We always talk about seeing things from Jesus’ perspective. But honestly, I think that actually DOING that is a full time job in itself. How do you think Jesus viewed the woman at the well? What about the little children who interrupted conversations wanting to meet with Christ? Or how about those disciples that He so lovingly washed their feet, although He knew that they would soon betray Him?

When is the last time you really made an effort to look for a more productive perspective through Jesus? Ask Him to be your glasses… Your chair… Your angle change… Then and only then will you see that loving and productive perspective.

STOP!

****

That concludes today’s blog,
For my time has expired,
And all this Friday rhyming,
Has made me kinda tired. 🙂

Blessings to you all!
SGK

“So if you’re serious about living this new resurrection life with Christ, act like it. Pursue the things over which Christ presides. Don’t shuffle along, eyes to the ground, absorbed with the things right in front of you. Look up, and be alert to what is going on around Christ—that’s where the action is. See things from his perspective.” –Colossians 3:1-2 MSG

  1. … can’t believe that you can rhyme so early in the day! blessings as you continue writing …

    • Ha ha, thanks, Linda– it’s amazing what a little bit of Jesus caffeine can do for a gal, huh?

  2. Love the rhyming and how you wound it in with wisdom. Thanking God for you! Praying for His perspective today…

  3. This is one of the reasons I feel that it is a shame that religion is ebbing out of people`s lives. On the one hand, it`s difficult to defend the harm religion has inflicted on individuals and groups. On the other hand, we are slowly losing the ability to view life through perspectives not generated in the ego. If only Jesus`s message did not get smothered and replaced with damaging church doctrine that can cloud our vision as much as secular distractions. When I sit quietly with a phrase attributed to Jesus, when I let his life work speak to me, when I truly reflect on his courage to accept those outside the margins, then I feel the presence of Jesus in my life and as you say this can be like being given a pair of glasses. These are the moments where I am stilled.

    • Oh, Lori-Ann– powerful words, girl!! And I agree with you– things have gotten so distorted through the ideas of “religion.” But instead of viewing it as religion, I believe Jesus calls us to shift our perspective to make it a relationship!

      • That’s true. Too strict a focus on the ‘religion’ aspect of faith risks a blind adherence to the rules and regulations of an institution, and this could hinder the development of a personal philosophy. Developing a personal relationship requires digging deeper than the church manual. Yet, too strict a focus on the personal relationship can risk a self-absorbed faith. For me there needs to be a balance between the “practice” of my faith and the fostering of that personal relationship with the divine. The practices and rituals of my church keep my faith present in the space of community. The ‘replaying’ of the great OT stories, the creeds, prayers, and hymns, are the symbolic experiences that keep my faith present in the great scope of time– the mythical background so to speak. But this is probably straying too far from the original discussion which was about looking at life through the eyes of Jesus. I hope that’s ok.

  4. such good questions to ask…and to think about their answers, from the perpsective of Jesus.

    thanks for this challenge today!

    blessings!

    • You are very welcome, Richelle! Thanks so much for stopping by! It is really difficult to shift perspectives– especially when we are so set in our ways.
