Wake Up & See (Five Minute Friday)

It’s the moment we’ve all been waiting for… Ok, at least the moment I really look forward to all week– It’s Five Minute Friday!

For those of you just joining our 7 Days Time Journey… Each Friday, I link up with The Gypsy Mama. She gives us a prompt. Then we write. For five minutes flat. No overthinking, no  excessive editing.

It’s been a crazy week in the world of ministry, so enough chitty chatting from my end. Let’s get to it.

Todays prompt: SEE

Beep, beep, beep! My alarm. My arms flail towards my nightstand, slapping my phone to make it stop. Very slowly, I open my eyes. For a few brief moments, my vision is blurry. But soon my eyes adjust to the world around me and I can see. It’s going to be a good day.

But sometimes it doesn’t quite happen so nicely. Ever had anyone come into the room and throw on the light with no warning? OW! GEEZ! OK, I’m up! (And you better run, cuz I am coming after you. THAT HURT.)

That method words to help me wake up and see as well… but it is a lot less pleasant.

Waking up is hard to do. (Isn’t that  a song? Oh wait…) If we are completely honest with ourselves, we could probably agree that most of us are living in darkness, blind to the world around us. But we all have One thing that can clear up our sight and wake us up immediately– but way less painfully than just throwing on the light.

That’s right. Jesus is our light to help us see. And He wakes us up ever-so-gently. (Unless we refuse to wake up and see at all– but that’s another blog post.)

Amazing Grace was (and still is) one of my favorite hymns when I was growing up. In fact, I used to sit on the sink counter, and sing it alongside my Daddy as we “shaved” our faces together. “Twas blind, but now I see.”

What an incredible promise. Jesus can gently and lovingly be the light that helps us wake up and see the world around us.

All we have to do is open our eyes.

Ahhh… The Five Minute Friday rush never gets old. Such a refreshing exercise! Oh, and by the way…  Don’t be shy… If you feel so led, leave a comment below. Seriously, hearing from you wonderful Jesus cheerleaders is so encouraging and keeps us rocking and rolling here at 7 Days Time.

Praying that your weekend rocks and I will see you right back here on Monday.

Five Minute Friday High Five,

“We don’t yet see things clearly. We’re squinting in a fog, peering through a mist. But it won’t be long before the weather clears and the sun shines bright! We’ll see it all then, see it all as clearly as God sees us, knowing him directly just as he knows us!” -1 Corinthians 13:12 (MSG)

  1. Just popping over from Gypsy Mama’s – love this post – especially that last line….our God is amazing, and the good news? It is so good! “All we have to do is open our eyes.” Yes!

(Oh, and I love Amazing Grace too!)

    • Thanks for stopping by, LuAnne! So glad we share a love of Amazing Grace and for Jesus to open our eyes 🙂

  2. Dawn

Enjoyed the post today. I’m asking for prayers for a co-worker/friends family. Karlyn passed away Wednesday night of breast cancer. She was in her mid 30s and leaves behind 2 very small childern and husband and numerous friends and family. This makes 2 seemingly sinceless losses in my life this year it’s so hard to understand! But, i know I have to put things in Gods hands and pray he embrasses these families, one of them mine, to move on as I know those past would want us to.

    • Oh Dawn– so incredibly sorry to hear this news. I’m praying for Karlyn’s family AND for you. Praying God will comfort all those involved and gently reveal His plans as He embraces all of you.

Please, please let me know if I can do anything else.

“As a mother comforts her child, so I’ll comfort you. You will be comforted in Jerusalem.” –Isaiah 66:13 (MSG)

  3. Jesus can gently and lovingly be the light that helps us wake up and see the world around us. – LOVE this line!!! I too struggle with waking up in the morning and I love the picture of Jesus gently (and patiently!) opening our eyes to what He wants us to see!
Thanks for visiting my blog. All the best to you!!!

    • Thanks for popping over here too, Becky. It was great to “meet” you via your blog. And praise God for waking us up every single day!

  4. Brooke

Your post reminds me of the Brandon Heath song Open My Eyes….all we have to do is open them. Isn’t that the hardest thing to do sometimes? Alas, it is a different post. I’ve only been here a couple weeks…but I dig these too. I try them in my journal as well to see what comes out. Amazing Grace is so beautiful….love that hymn.

  5. Dear Sharita,

May the light of the Lord Jesus shine and illumine my life so that I can see the world around me through His eys.

Amazing Grace is one of my very favorite hymns too!

  6. Beautiful, Sharita! His grace reallly is amazing. Thanks for encouraging me and reminding me to see the world around me as Jesus sees. 🙂

I'd love to hear from you. Comment here.
