On our Tippy Toes (Five Minute Friday)

Hello all! We have made it to another Friday once again. (See, no matter what you do or don’t get done today, you can at least say you survived (and hopefully thrived) through another week!)

Fridays are extra special ’round these parts. It is the day where I link up with our favorite Gypsy Mama Lisa-Jo Baker for Five Minute Friday.

Five Minute Friday is just like it sounds– she gives us a prompt, then we write for five minutes. Sounds easy enough, yes?

Five Minute Friday

Here’s the kicker– As we let the words flow, there is no over-thinking or editing. We just go with it and see what Jesus comes up with via our fingers in five minutes.

Today’s prompt: STRETCH

Ready? GO!

******

A cheerful (ok, slightly annoying) tune plays on my phone as my alarm rings. My eyes reluctantly flutter open. Time to face another day. I lay flat on my back, stretch my arms out as far as they go, straighten my legs, yawn and…

POP!

Ow!!! Cheese and crackers, that HURT!! What I intended to be a good morning stretch resulted in popping or pulling something in my neck/back area that hurt for 5 days. (True story.)

Sometimes, when we are stretched… it can hurt.

Yes, even when God does the stretching.

However, the best news about God stretching us is that He doesn’t injure us beyond reconciliation. Sure, it might be painful and unpleasant for a little while– but down the road, we discover that the trial or experience that stretched us was really for our own good and God’s glory.

We must allow God to stretch us in our lives, families, ministries, careers you name it. For only when we are stretched do we know how high or how far we can go in the name of Jesus.

Are you stiff and sore today in your relationship with Christ? When was the last time you have asked him to stretch you? What happens when God stretches you to your capacity? I would love to hear your thoughts– leave a comment below.

Now, if you will excuse me… God is calling me to do my daily stretching– heart tugs, open hand extensions and most of all, tippy toe calf raises as we stretch for heaven.

STOP!!

*****

Thanks for stopping by, peeps– I always appreciate your presence! May you have a wonderful and blessed weekend– and see you back here on Monday morning! (I have a lil surprise to share with all of you!)

Stretching for God,

“We’re able to stretch our hands out and receive what we asked for because we’re doing what he said, doing what pleases him.” 1 John 3:22 (MSG)

  1. So true! How is God stretching me? Well, we’ve moved 3 times in the last year, and in another week, we’re off to a fourth. That’s after living in the same house for the previous 9 years. Crazy! Especially, with two babies/toddlers in tow. Oh, well. Here we go again…Have a great Friday!

    • Goodness, TL… 4 moves? That’s intense!! I am so glad that you are embracing the stretch and pray that God does a great work on the wonderful journey He’s taking you on!

I hope your neck is feeling better!! In my 30+ years of serving Him, I can look back and see how God stretched me. I’m not going to lie–it hurt at the time but I have been so blest. I think of Jesus-arms stretched out on the cross, I’ll never know pain like that, and I am sooooo thankful He loved me that much to die for me!! Have a blest Friday!! Love you!!

    • Thanks, Ma… Yes, after a week, my neck is feeling better.

And I am right there with you– being stretched can definitely hurt momentarily, but those arms on the cross cover us all! Love you so much!

Great analogy to serving Him…it’s always a stretching, a bending, but never a breaking! Blessings!

    • Amen– so grateful God knows our breaking point better than we do– and doesn’t take us past it. What a wonderful promise 🙂

  4. So love this Sharita! Yes sometimes that stretch hurts. Sometimes more than we think we can bear. But He always heals the hurt part of it and grows our faith in the midst of it. Thanks so much for sharing! So looking forward to getting to know you more! Blessings!

    • I remember seeing a quote, something along the line of “Physical strength is what we can carry… Spiritual strength is what we can bear.” So thankful that God knows our limits and pushes us to grow but still protects us!
