The High-Way (Guest Blog)

There’s something you should know about me.

 I’m kind of a nerd.

Not quite a nerd of Steve Urkel magnitude, but a little bit of a nerd nonetheless.

I love inky pens, journals, and most office supplies in general. I treat books as old friends, totally dig résumé editing, and while I despise numbers, nothing gets me more excited than formatting a color-coded spreadsheet. Oh, and I listen to army cadence while working out.

 Wait. What?

Army cadence is awesome. Maybe it’s because I’m married to a U.S. Army Infantryman. Or maybe because the beat is the bomb diggity. Or maybe I’m just a nerd.

My beloved husband recently got done with a two-year duty of being a drill sergeant. During that time, I learned a lot of cadences. Here’s a little piece of one of my favorites: (Try to yell this in your head in a marching, rhythmic tone…)

“Just the other day I heard a drill sergeant saaaaayyyy… It’s my way or your way and your way’s the highway.”

Hmmm… It’s my way or your way and your way’s the highway. Think about that… While it’s a fun play on words, revamp the context a bit and this catchy phrase also has significant application in our walk as Christians…

****

Curious as to where I am going with this post? (Yeah, I was too while it was in the making…) Then pop on over to my dear friend Laurie’s blog to see how this army cadence has to do with our Christian walk. It will be worth it. I promise 🙂

A Four-Letter-Word (Guest Blog)

The room was dark. All was quiet. But my mind was swirling… Various items of my “To Do” list were zipping through my head… Unpack boxes. Call the Internet company. Paint. Hang Curtains. Blog. Make the weekly menu. Update Budget.

My heart started to race and a sinking feeling of panic overtook me. There was no way sleep was coming any time soon. But then suddenly… I heard His Voice…

****

Hey friends! I am guest blogging over at one of my dude-reader/writer blogs today… Pop on over to Brent’s site to see the rest of the story  (and find out what four-letter-word I’m talking about… It’s not inappropriate, I promise.)

As always, thanks for swinging by… Blessing and prayers to you all.

Resting in Him,
SGK

SURPRISE! Everyday Jesus Series Intro

Not gonna lie… I just love it when a profound and exciting Jesus idea pops into my head.

Seriously. There are few things more motivating.

As we approach the birth of our first child, a season/event which my husband and I fondly call BabyTime, I have spent significant time thinking/praying as to what ministry will look like when our “Little Patriot” makes his/her debut into our lives.

My answer: I have no idea.

Don’t get me wrong… I’m sure there will be plenty of sleep-deprivation and poopy diapers. But as to what 7 Days Time and ministry looks like? Great question. I will get back to you when I have the answer myself.

One thing that was made pretty clear to me was not to quit completely. I know some folks cut all ministry/writing/bloggy ties when baby comes into the picture, if not forever, at least for an extended season… which is completely acceptable and understandable. Apparently being a Mama is a poop-ton of work (pun intended.)

But while we are excited about the arrival of our new little one, God hasn’t released me from this ministry (for which I am very thankful!) Also, He didn’t tell me to take a specific type of break. (Because really, it would be waaayyy harder to stop for a few weeks than legitimately pick it back up again instead of write it off forever. And honestly, Jesus and I have worked too hard and too long over the last year and a half just to be like, ok, DONE. Chapter closed. Moving on.)

Instead, He told me to ask for help.

So help I am getting.

Here’s the loose game plan… Next Monday will begin a new chapter at 7 Days Time– a guest blogging series from some of my greatest Jesus writer-y girlfriends (and guy friends, believe it or not!) The series will run til… well, until I run out of guest bloggers 🙂 The series is entitled “Everyday Jesus.”

The general premise is going to be about how my sweet guest bloggers have experienced a “Jesus sneak-attack” in the everyday moments of life… At the grocery store, doing the laundry, even on Facebook, etc, etc…

OR how they have been a part of Jesus moving in someone else’s everyday life.

I have a sneaky suspicion that these posts are going to be  funny, quirky, heartfelt, intense, all over the board.  (The sky is the limit.)

Um, I might kinda-sorta-perhaps be a smidgen excited about this season of life and this Jesus opportunity/epiphany to feature some incredible writers who have remarkable hearts for Jesus.

Monkey surprise

Are you as surprised and excited as these guys? I am.

I know that each and every one of you will welcome these awesome guest bloggers with open arms– and leave them lots and lots of love in the form of feedback and comments. (Hint, hint, wink, wink, nudge, nudge.)

Plus, you will get some sweet connections to other Christian-esque blogs.

Plus, you will definitely be encouraged about how important it is to look for Jesus in everyday life.

Are you excited? I sure hope so… because I can hardly wait!!

So on that note: What are you looking forward to most about this blogging series? Do you have a great “Everyday Jesus” story moment you would like to share? Comment below!

Thanks for your flexibility and support during this new life season for us– it’s gonna be a wild ride, but I have a sneaky feeling that Jesus is gonna be with us each step of the way… every day!

Ready to rock and roll,
SGK

“This is my life work: helping people understand and respond to this Message. It came as a sheer gift to me, a real surprise, God handling all the details.” ~Ephesians 3:7 MSG

PS: As of this very moment, I hope to continue blogging on a regular basis in addition to the Monday guest bloggers… It might be a little sporadic from time to time, but my pre-birth nesting phase has transitioned into the digital world (thank you, Jesus!) so I am/have been working on several fresh posts to share post-baby. Stay tuned!

Embracing Change: Take it to the Bank (Guest Post)

My feet gently hit the pavement, in rhythm with the tiny “click, clack” of puppy paws. Although my mind wonders, my eyes are focused. They scan the horizon and then dart back to the ground. Just as we round the last block, a bright glint catches in my eye… there it is…

Today I am incredibly blessed to have the opportunity to guest post for one of my dear online (AND in real life!) friends, Tracy Steel. Here’s a few things to know about Tracy:

  1. She loves Jesus
  2. She is awesome
  3. Her ministry, One Degree Ministries, is incredible
  4. She is hilarious
  5. She is also a military wife
  6. She is a Kansas native
  7. AND… She is a K-State alumni.

As you can see per the list above, we were automatically kindred spirits when we first “met” online… and things just exploded (in a good way) when we got to meet IRL (in real life) this past summer. I love this gal and am so thankful to guest post over at her place today. Check out the rest of the post all about embracing change by clicking here.

Oh, and you know the drill. Don’t be shy about leaving comments here and there. We love feedback!

Here’s to embracing change (and awesome friends. And you can take THAT to the bank!

Truth, Dare… Or Both

It was pitch black. My flashlight beam bounced all around thanks to my shaky hand. I swallowed hard. There was no turning back. I had already accepted those fateful words:

“I dare you.”

I set out to accomplish my dare: cross a deserted country highway, in the dark, at 3am on a Sunday morning. It seemed simple enough, but to a group (gaggle? posse? flock?) of 7th grade girls, this was the dare of all dares. As I neared the middle of the road, I grew confident. “Pshaw. This is easy,” I thought to myself.

Suddenly, my friends start squawking and squealing. Headlights were coming. Sure, they were a good half-mile away, but WHO was driving on the road at 3am in the country? My heart raced. I turned and ran faster than I ever had in my life.  A jumble of screaming girls piled into the tent. We peeked out the zipper flap to make sure the car passed by.

But the car turned into the driveway.

We tried to stifle our screams of terror as waited to meet the unknown stranger that would surely be our demise…

Today I have the amazing opportunity to guest blog for my friend Laurie over at Living Power…  I DARE you to click over to Laurie’s blog for a little dose of TRUTH to get the rest of this story. Do you accept?

Oh, and PS… Don’t be shy about leaving a comment here and there! We both appreciate it 🙂 (Hint, hint, wink, wink, nudge, nudge.)

Taking the dare with a dose of truth,
SGK
