Can I See Your I.D.? (Five Minute Friday)

Alas, loyal followers… another Friday tis upon us! (Not quite sure why I am talking like that…)

Ahem. Check. Check. Ah. Ok, that’s better.

Anywho… It’s Friday. And Friday means that I link up with The Gypsy Mama for Five Minute Friday. She gives us a prompt, then we engage in what I like to call a finger sprint. We write for five minutes flat, no over thinking, no editing. Just write. We let the words flow and see where we go. (Look at me rhyming on a Friday.)

Sorry bout the squirrelly behavior. I need to cut back on the caffeine I guess.

I should probably get started before I embarrass myself. (More than I already have.)

Todays prompt:ย IDENTITY

AND ย GO!

“Ma’am, can I see your I.D.?”

I hear this question on a very regular basis. From paying for groceries or entering onto post,ย (at least an an army wife,) to filling out paperwork, to purchasing an adult beverage to getting pulled over by one of Georgia’s finest. (Note: that last one hasn’t happened yet. Hope to keep it that way.)

I have a nifty little card with my picture on it to verify who I am. But I am so much more than a piece of plastic.

I am a wife. Daughter. Friend. Cheerleader. Kansan. K-State Alumni. Minister. Writer. And most of all? Child of God.

It says in 1 John 3:1 “How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God. And that is what we are!”

How stinkin’ awesome is that?! (PS: Notice the exclamation point at the end of that verse? Not many of those in the Bible. Kind of a big deal, right?) I AM a child of The One more High. And so are you. Pretty special, huh?

Once we understand who we are In Christ by establishing our identity in Him… We can truly live. In Him. From Him. For Him.

I live for Christ. So maybe next time instead of showing that shiny piece of plastic when someone asks “Ma’am, can I see some I.D?” I can turn to 1 John and say with a loving smile, “Why sir… I am a child of God.”

STOP

Woooooeeeee! What a sprint! Somebody bring me a towel! Gatorade perhaps? I’m gonna go cool down and hit the showers. Hope you all have a super-blessed weekend and I will see you right back here on Monday with more overly-caffeinated Jesus messages.

Great post, but can I borrow some of that energy as I attempt to finish school?

    • Hmmm… Go brew yourself a cup of joe and get to work, my little Bekah– we gotta go to Six Flags on Friday! ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. I admire anyone who can write AND post a five minute off the cuff musing.

    • Ha ha, thank you, Lori-Ann… I just let the words flow– and am usually pretty surprised at where I end up.

  3. Loved this! May even try it myself. Identy awareness is so important. And I have noticed the exclamation point! Love it!

    • Can’t you just imagine their reaction if we answered them with “I am a Child of God?” Hmmm, could be interesting ๐Ÿ™‚

Sharita, I must say, I enjoy your caffeinated ways! ๐Ÿ˜‰ One of these fine days I’m going to answer someone by saying, “I am a daughter of the King”! I’m pretty sure He {God} would like that, and so would I. Thanks for sharing sister! ~ blessings, Amy

    • I KNOW that He would like that, girl… He is oh-so-proud of us and loves us dearly. Praise the Lord that we should be called children of God!

I'd love to hear from you. Comment here.
